In agreement with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act of 2006, the Government of India has introduced MSMEs or Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. These companies are primarily engaged in the manufacture, production, processing or preservation of products and commodities.

In a nation like India, MSMEs play a critical role in the country’s social growth and economic development. MSMEs in India are also making a major contribution to India’s production, transport, employment and enterprise units. The MSME sector is also popularly known as the Small Scale Industry (SSI) in India.

Benefits of Udyam / MSME/ Udyog Aadhar Registration

Following are the Benefits of Udyam/ MSME/ Udyog Aadhar Registration :

It Helps businesses to apply for numerous services which are offered by the Government.
Provides identity without a fee to the concerned business as an MSME unit.
Helps prioritize MSMEs to get orders from the government departments and PSUs.
MSMEs can avail funding under the Credit Guarantee Trust Fund without providing collateral. Provides a platform for resolving problems such as delays in receiving outstanding payments.
MSME’s can get subsidy/concessions in electricity bills, interest rates on bank loans, trademark registration fees, etc.

Udyam / MSME/ Udyog Aadhar Registration Criteria

Proprietorships, Hindu Undivided Family, Partnership Firm, One Person

Company, Limited Liability Partnership, Private Limited Company, Limited Company, Producer Company, any association of persons, co-operative societies or any other undertaking can obtain MSME registration in India. MSMEs will now be called Micro units .

The organizations which are eligible for Udyam Registration are meant to be either in manufacturing or producing or processing or preservation of goods or in providing the services. In other words, Traders who buy, sell, import, or export the goods are not even eligible for applying for Udyam Registration.

But you should know that there are a set of criteria that an entity has to meet to be classified as a medium, small, or micro-enterprise for obtaining the MSMEregistration.

As per the current notification

Types of Enterprises ( for Manufacturing or Service sector, Both)

Micro Enterprises

Investment up to Rs 1 Cr and turnover up to Rs 5 Cr

Small Enterprises

Investment up to Rs 10 Cr and turnover up to Rs 50 Cr

Medium Enterprises

Investment upto Rs 50 Cr and turnover upto Rs250 Cr
